Matt Rioux

Faculty Reps

My name is Matt Rioux and I am a faculty member in the Department of Earth Science. This is my first year as a faculty representative for SFAC and I look forward to learning more about SFAC and the projects supported by the student community. I started my current position at UCSB in 2018. I teach our department’s introductory Earth 2 course, as well as upper division courses on mineralogy, field methods, and igneous rocks. My research focuses on studying the formation of igneous rocks and plate tectonic processes. My pronouns are He/Him and I am an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Earth Science. For a fun fact, I use high precision U-Pb dating to study the timing and timescales of geologic processes.
